Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions about power of attorney apostilles

An apostille authenticates the signature, seal and capacity of the signatory on a public document. It does not certify the power of attorney’s content or the representative’s powers.

First, the regional court for the notary’s place of practice authenticates the document. The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs then issues the apostille.

An ordinary photocopy is unsuitable. Acceptance of a notarised copy must be agreed with the receiving institution and checked before submission.

Yes, a third party can submit them. If the intermediary is not named in the application, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs requires written authorisation bearing the applicant’s handwritten signature.

There is no single timescale: regional court authentication, the submission method, delivery and translation all matter. We provide an estimate after checking the power of attorney.

The receiving institution decides. If both the power of attorney and apostille need translation, this is usually done after the apostille is completed.

Apostilles apply between states for which the 1961 Hague Convention is in force. Consular legalisation may be needed in other cases.

Yes. The initial check can be done remotely, with receipt of the original and return of the document agreed with your adviser.
